Project title: Computer-controlled modular laser source for special optical measurement methods

Annotation:

The project refers to the problem of solved project VEGA 1/0617/09 "Optical fibre sensors and their applications". The proposed project deals with the problem of a design analysis and implementation of the computer-controlled modular laser source for special optical measurement methods. Specifically for the method of optical fibre reflectometry (OTDR, Optical time domain reflectometry) and the coherent frequency fibre reflectometry (CO OFDR, Coherent optical frequenct domain reflectometry). As an object of the project will be interconnection of laser source electronic part with Matlab environment enabling monitoring / to adjust modulation parameters, temperature stability, optical power, threshold etc. Finally it will be realization of the module laser and its implementation into the prototype PC OTDR reflectometer or CO OFDR, whoce alternatives are on the present developed at the Department of High-frequency Techniques and Optoelectronics of the Institute of Electrical Engineering. The main objective of these measurement methods is the use of optical fibres for the sensor application or for the optical fibre sensors with distributed parameters.

Project title: Design and implementation of MEMS structure to measure forces

 

Principal investigator: Ing. Lukáš Maršálka

Annotation:

The project treats the problem of the design and construction of the sensor of the force (pressure) based on the measured data transmission by means of the change of electromagnetic field properties. Developed sensor changes the force (pressure) into the change of mutual distance of the arms of proposed micro-mechanical structure whereas this distance is measured by the absorption resonance method.

As a subject of solution there is design and implementation of flexible hinges of elestic mechanism by the use of availablesimulation tools. The results will be processing of the problem of the accuracy of the force transfer to the distance on the proposed and implemented structure.

Next problem of solution is the design of electronic part of sensor, which allows transferring the distance into electrical signal - resonant frequency and enables to transfer this signal from the sensor to the interpretation device.
